Slick Google Map 0.2 released

I just have pushed a new version of the Slick Google Map plugin for WordPress to the servers. There are not many changes, but one that has been requested already in the ancestor, the Comprehensive Google Map Plugin, namely editing of saved shortcodes.

And although the layout of the edit button is not so nice (help wanted), it does its work.

Please see the dedicated page or the WordPress page for more details and downloads.

Enjoy.

Rewriting fmtutil in Perl

TeX Live 2015 is still a few months of, but one of the things I am planning for it is to rewrite fmtutil in Perl, and change its functionality slightly. This follows the rewrite of updmap in the last years. The main user-visible change will be that fmtutil, like updmap will go “multi”, that means it will read all fmtutil.cnf files instead of only the first.

texlive2015

Up to now we are generating the final fmtutil.cnf from the information in the texlive.tlpdb, merged/overridden by fmtutil-local.cnf. This approach has worked for years, but I wouldn’t call it standard, and it needs special treatment of the -local.cnf file. Furthermore, user-specific adaptions are not possible.

Font configuration had the same problem, and we solved it by reading all available updmap.cfg files. This allows for

  • separation of the information into the trees where the respective files are provided
  • easier upgradability with preserving of changes
  • per-user font configuration can easily be handled.

For a more detailed explanation on how multi-updmap works, see this post.

The same reasoning actually applies to formats, and in addition we wanted to unify the sources. At the moment there is a shell script for Unix, and an executable (compiled) fmtutil for Windows. By rewriting it in perl we can use the same script on both Windows and Unix, and new features can easily be applied and shipped.

I am developing this (and some other scripts) in my GitHub project texlive-rewrite, in case you are interested, or want to contribute.

Current status: working on both Windows and Unix on normal invocations, but I want to create also a test suite to check all command line options. As soon as the new Perl script is operational, I will publish a detailed explanation following the one for updmap.

Hope you enjoy it!

Tutorial: Lists in CafeOBJ

I have created a new tutorial for CafeOBJ that will introduce users to functional programming the CafeOBJ way, in particular list processing and programming. We introduce lists, and define functions on them: length, append, insert, and insert sort. At the end we shortly touch the topic of tracing CafeOBJ rewriting.

The tutorial is published on the CafeOBJ page, direct link: Tutorial: Lists.

Sigil for Debian

After long and painful back and forth, we finally uploaded Sigil to Debian. Sigil is a great multi-platform epub editor.

sigil-debian

First time the intention to package was uttered was in 2010, see bug 590180, but the activity soon died off again. In 2014 I did a first packaging (quick and dirty) of a recent version because I wanted to have Sigil working on Debian. It turned out that due to some licensing problems (one flightcrew) file, there was not chance to upload.

Steps in Mattia Rizzolo, who took over my packaging, and improved it incredible, removed all duplicate libraries, separately packaged several libraries, and finally got sigil into an uploadable state. So today I have uploaded sigil to experimental, and it is now waiting in the NEW queue.

Big thanks to Mattia, and also to Don Armstrong who helped along the way with excellent support and suggestions. Sigil is a good addition to Debian!

tohoko-tokyo

End of gitorious, move to github

I just realized that gitorious.org will shut down end of May due to being acquired by GitLab. That means I had to move the repositories I had there over to different places. Gitorious offered seamless import into GitLab, but since I have already several other repos running on GitHub, I decided to move all my repositories there.

gitorious-github

That means that from now on the following repositories are not anymore available from gitorious, but from the linked github pages. I ask all the contributors for understanding and hope to see merge requests and issues popping up on github.

The following repositories join the list of development projects I already have on github: PiwigoPress, Slick Google Map Plugin, TeX Live rewrite, and Plex Home Theater Debian packaging.

Japanese TeX related

Sony Laptop related

These are mostly for historic purposes, as they are not developed anymore.

This and that

ptex2pdf 0.6

texworks-edit
